Experience the Past Like Never Before
Step into a world where history comes alive. Our museum invites you on a journey through time—beginning with the awe-inspiring 100-year-old Beam Engine, a magnificent piece of engineering heritage still in working condition. Marvel at the craftsmanship that powered a generation and discover the lives shaped by it.
Continue your exploration into the elegance of a bygone era with our collection of clothing and accessories once worn by young ladies at the turn of the 20th century.
In our contemporary section, get up close with a surprising piece of history—a collection of shoes that were brocken on the old Goolwa wharf. There is a story going around that one pair could be Princess Diana’s iconic shoe, the very one where she famously broke the heel. Don’t forget to capture the moment with a selfie beside these unforgettable artifacts!

Throughout your visit, immerse yourself in a rich collection of historical videos that tell the remarkable story of The PS Oscar W, our beloved Paddle steamer, and the many passionate individuals who have dedicated their time and expertise to preserving her for future generations.
Whether you're a history enthusiast, a curious traveler, or simply looking for a unique experience, our museum offers something for everyone. Come and be part of the story.
ABOUT US
The paddle steamer Oscar 'W' was built in 1908 by Franz Oscar Wallin (commonly known as Charlie Wallin) at Echuca.
He named the vessel after his son Oscar whom he hoped would continue his shipping business. However, young Oscar was killed in World War I. Since then, P.S. Oscar 'W' has remained a symbol of resilience and legacy, offering visitors a unique glimpse into Australia's rich maritime history.
Located in Goolwa, Australia, this iconic landmark stands as a testament to the Wallin family's enduring spirit.

Training covered docking and locking principles, essential knots and rope handling and on-board fire drills and bilge pump operations.

COMMUNITY SPIRIT

Calling all inspiring individuals!
We are on the lookout for extraordinary volunteers to join the Friends of the Oscar 'W' Inc. and become part of the vibrant Alexandrina Council community. At present, our team boasts around 100 dedicated volunteers, whose outstanding contributions are truly remarkable.
But the journey doesn't end there - we are always seeking fresh faces to join us in our noble cause and share in the fulfilling work and joyful experiences that come with it. Let's come together and make a difference!

WHAT WE DO:
Every Wednesday, we eagerly engage in boat maintenance, including painting, welding, cleaning, and timber maintenance and replacement to keep the vessel in top condition.
Our dedicated crew, fondly known as "The Wood Fairies," diligently source, split, and transport dry timber from surrounding farms to support our boat operations.
It's important to note that our vessel, the Oscar 'W', is crewed entirely by volunteers, with each cruise requiring a team of 7 individuals including a Qualified Skipper, Mate, Steam Engineer, Fireman/Stoker, and three Deckhands. We take pride in providing training and experience at all levels.
Additionally, our members actively contribute to the operations of the Goolwa Riverport Experience Centre on the wharf, where we offer historical interpretation of the Goolwa Riverport, share river history, and offer a range of souvenirs and merchandise. Our staff also play a pivotal role in facilitating bookings and ticketing for the memorable and exciting Oscar 'W' cruises.

If you're interested in sharing your expertise, making a difference in your community, forming new connections, and enjoying some excitement, we're excited to welcome new team members.
